A great video by the Vigin Vipers, who are wishing Team VM good luck in the Mumbles Duathlon this weekend.

A group of the Vipers got together and filmed a Cheerleading Routine to wish good luck to the Duathletes of Team VM racing in the Mumbles Duathlon and to support Brian Jenkins, who is raising money for Cancer Research in honour of his father, Ron, who tragically passed away in July 2011 due to cancer.

The Wales swim attracts over 1000 swimmers from all over the World to swim in the UK’s cleanest waters.  Being the same swim as The Ironman Wales event, many athletes use this as a practice event to hone sighting skills.

Last years event attracted 42% of first time open water swimmers too – giving new people to the sport an incredible experience.

It is the opening event of The Longcourse Weekend and this years event see’s a Junior Open Water Swimming Champs included on the same day.

Scott Powell of Activity Wales Events says “David is a great ambassador for Wales and Open Water Swimming and we are delighted to have him on board.  He will also be working closely with us on developing a few open water swimming clinics and advice panels. Without doubt he will add a lot to the event and his eagerness to help juniors develop really fits with our legacy strategy.”

But we can now confirm the deal has been signed, sealed and delivered! Long Course Weekend will be televised this July and scheduled for release Worldwide across 160 countries.  Channel 4 and Eurosport will cover the UK platform with ESPN having a large part of the worldwide platform.

The decision has delighted all that have been part of the dream of bringing world class events to Wales and we would personally like to thank all athletes and supporters; without whom this also would not have been possible.

On a final note, as TV is said to add 5lbs to those being televised, our race directors have been enrolled on a crash diet, one they don’t seem to be taking very seriously at the moment!

After breaking the course record last year and sending the Grandstands into a frenzy, Matt dropped to his knee and proposed to Vicky.  They are to be married in June this year.

All the events here in Wales are filling nicely and with only 2 weeks to go before the price rise we thought we would inspire you to either enter if you have not already or do what Matt does every year: pick a friend and enter him/her into their first event.  Having something to train for is usually all a person needs to keep going with that new year resolution – You know the ones, this year I am going to…., next week I will start…., but they never actually do!!

Well (please picture me standing on a mound preaching and pointing my finger!) this is your chance to change someones life, maybe save it in some cases!!

Luis Alvarez, who earned himself a place in the Guinness Book of World Records because he’s competed at every IRONMAN in the world, described the epic bike course in Wales as the toughest ride he’s ever done!  Scott Powell of Activity Wales Events says ” If you are going to get a compliment like this, this is the man to give it to you! He has ridden them all and he certainly saw something very special in Wales.  For the Long course weekend we have now added so much to the course now to add to that athlete and spectator experience.  Simply can’t wait for July to show it off!!”

The office certainly woke early to the news as many had facebooked it from all over the World!! Its a tough one indeed, but the views and the crowds really do make it.  If you fancy a go at it places are still available on the Wales Sportive for July 2013 for £30.

“The race set up is almost perfect with one transition overlooking Mumbles Bay.  The bike course is fast and I doubt there is a flatter run anywhere in the UK” says Scott Powell race director.  ”The finish line has now grown and grown and with Verdi’s cafe serving stunning coffees and breakfast, it keeps a real good atmosphere around transition and on the run course itself.

Mumbles attracts everyone from the 1st timers through to GB athletes simply because of its make up and atmosphere.  The location is stunning -The choice of sprint and super sprint for beginners –  and there is always a great finish between the top athletes for the crowd to watch! This race has delivered every year for us.  We have kept the prices the same as last year as we know the economy is not great, but all our partners have helped us keep costs down for next year, so we have passed that saving straight to the athletes.

Also Activity Wales Events are one of the only organisers to kick back fees to help clubs develop.  So if you register a club with Fran on 01437 765777 she will issue you a code.  When your club enters, simply drop the code in the box and Activity Wales pay your club £5 for every athlete that signs up using that code.For some clubs this is their biggest injection of funds year on year.

Activity Wales will be opening their middle distance race for entries on November 1st – “The Wales Triathlon” in Fishguard Pembrokeshire on August 3rd.
