Celebrating our Partnership: Hugh James & Long Course Weekend Wales
Long Course Weekend Wales is proud to celebrate the continued and transformative support of title partner Hugh James. A partnership that has grown into something far greater than sport alone.
Since becoming the "Powered By" title partner of Long Course Weekend Wales in 2023, Hugh James has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the event, and surrounding communities. Their support has been one of the driving forces behind the LCW Legacy Programme across the years.
As a UK top 100 law firm, with deep Welsh roots and a strong heritage in the sports sector, Hugh James brings more than a well renowned reputation to this partnership. The firm's ongoing commitment to both the event's growth and the delivery of meaningful community work through the LCW Legacy Programme speaks for itself.
Joe Purcell, CCO at Hugh James, said For us it is one of our most significant social value partnerships. We are pleased to support an initiative that makes a genuine difference for children across Pembrokeshire. Looking ahead to this year’s event, we are excited for what promises to be another fantastic weekend.
Thanks to Hugh James's and other partners' continued support, the Legacy Programme's learn-to-swim initiative is achieving outstanding results. In Pembrokeshire, 62% of pupils in Years 3–6 have now achieved the national swimming standard. 22% above the national average, while 80% of Year 6 pupils have met the National Curriculum standard. The results highlight the hugely positive impact this programme is making to children's lives in Pembrokeshire.
And the programme is only growing. In 2026, with Hugh James's support, the LCW Legacy Programme will reach more than 1,000 children across 55 schools in Pembrokeshire, continuing to ensure that swimming and water safety education is accessible to every child, regardless of background.
Matthew Evans, CEO of Long Course Weekend, said, What Hugh James understands is that this is about more than an event. It’s about people, pride, and place. Their commitment goes beyond sponsorship, it reaches into our schools, our communities, and the future of our young people. That’s the kind of partnership that leaves a legacy long after the finish line is crossed
That spirit of giving back, of investing in people and places, is exactly what makes Hugh James such a valued partner to Long Course Weekend Wales. As LCW heads into its 15th year and welcomes more than 50,000 athletes and supporters to Tenby from 26th–28th June 2026, Hugh James will be right at the heart of it not just as a title partner, but as a champion of Wales.
