Long Course Weekend celebrates Mayor’s Challenge runners who raised £2,500 for local charities.
Long Course Weekend joined the Mayor of Tenby, Councillor Dai Morgan, on Tuesday 17 February for a special celebration event in the Mayor’s Parlour, recognising the incredible fundraising efforts of those who took part in this year’s Mayor’s Challenge.
The Mayor’s Challenge is a community-focused initiative delivered in partnership with Long Course Weekend. As part of the event’s ongoing commitment to supporting local causes, Long Course Weekend donated race entries to charities and community organisations across the area, enabling participants to raise funds by completing either the 5K or 10K run.
The reception brought together the athletes and representatives from Tenby’s chosen charities. It provided an opportunity to share their stories, acknowledge the collective effort behind the fundraising, and celebrate the positive impact that community collaboration can create.
During the evening, one-of-a-kind commemorative framed medals were presented to participants who completed their run in support of their chosen causes. Together, runners raised an impressive total of £2,500 for a range of local charities and organisations.
Mayor of Tenby, Councillor Dai Morgan, said:
"This has been a truly outstanding combined community effort. My sincere thanks go to Matthew and Scott for the opportunity to work in partnership with LCW and for their continued generosity. I would also like to commend all of the runners for the commitment they have shown in raising such significant funds for their respective charities. It has been a real pleasure to work with the organisations and charities involved, and I offer them my special thanks for the invaluable work they do for our community."
Matthew Evans, Founder of Long Course Weekend, added:
“Sport can be so powerful. But what makes it truly meaningful is what it leaves behind. The Mayor’s Challenge is about more than crossing a finish line, it’s about creating a legacy that ripples through our community long after race day.
To see so much raised for local charities by runners who gave their time, energy and heart is incredibly inspiring. That is the true spirit of Long Course Weekend.
We are deeply grateful to the Mayor, to our charity partners, and to every participant who chose to run not just for themselves, but for a bigger cause. Together, we’re proving that when sport and community come together, the impact goes far beyond the course.”
Long Course Weekend remains committed to showcasing Pembrokeshire at its very best, welcoming athletes and supporters from around the world, boosting the local economy, and celebrating the community spirit that makes Tenby an exceptional host for major sporting events.
